Fall Boating Tips

In Florida, we are lucky enough to have an endless summer to enjoy boating on the ocean, lakes, and rivers throughout the state. Of course, there are a few things that do change throughout the year that you should be aware of when boating.

1.) Lights – As it does get darker earlier in the fall, boaters should be prepared with waterproof head lamps and flashlights. It is also important to assure all navigational lights are working correctly.

2.) Bring a jacket – While the air may seem warm while you’re on the land, it is often much cooler when you’re out on the ocean. Not to mention, if you get at all wet, it will make you even cooler than usual.

3.) Weather – Keep an eye on the weather prior to going boating, as wind and storms can bring heavy waves, especially in the fall and winter months.

4.) The buddy system – Let a friend or family member know that you will be out on your boat, and when they can expect you to be back. Make sure to check-in with them when you do arrive back to shore, so they dont worry.

We hope that everyone follows all boating rules, and has fun while boating this fall!
